Pick 3: Seattle vs St. Louis and New Orleans vs Arizona

Pick 3: Seattle vs St. Louis and New Orleans vs Arizona

The Teaser: Pair Seattle and New Orleans

Game 1: Seattle vs. St. Louis

The Initial Line:

Seattle -4.5 away vs. St. Louis

The Take:

Add 8 points to Seattle’s line

The Final Line:

Seattle +3.5

The Breakdown:

Seattle was one play away from winning their 2nd consecutive super bowl, but Malcolm Butler stomped on their parade. Still they are ranked #1 in the preseason power rankings over the super bowl champs, which shows that they are still the team to beat. The combination of a stellar defense lead by the Legion of Boom along with the offensive attack of Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch makes then primed for another playoff run. St. Louis is coming off a 6-10 season and looks like a team searching for answers on offense. They hope that first round pick Todd Gurley can have a big year, but with a new offense led by Nick Foles only time will tell. Seattle is better on both sides of the ball, and they should be able to defeat their division foes in week 1. Even if somehow St. Louis pulled the last minute upset, grabbing them with a FG cushion should cover it.

Final Stat: Seattle had the least yards allowed in 2014 by 600 yards over the next team, and had the 4th best turnover differential at +9

Game 2: New Orleans vs. Arizona

The Initial Line:

New Orleans +1 away vs. Arizona

The Take:

Add 8 points to New Orleans’ line

The Final Line:

New Orleans +9

The Breakdown:

New Orleans had a disappointing 2014, finishing with a 7-9 record. Many say that Drew Brees in in decline, but his “poor” season was one where he threw for almost 5,000 pass yards (4,952) and 33 TDs. When NO was at the height of his offense Brees utilized Darren Sproles, and the offseason pickup of CJ Spiller should be a good alternative for both the rushing and passing game. They spent a lot of effort improving their defense in the offseason however, with notable acquisitions of Dannell Ellerbe, Brandon Browner, Anthony Spencer, Kyle Wilson, and new rookies in the draft. Arizona looks to be in a decent position going into the season, but they need to see how Carson Palmer does recovering from a torn ACL. Also they need to see how the defense will perform without Darnell Dockett and Antonio Cromartie. I feel that these teams are fairly evenly matched and this should be a close game until the end. Taking NO with over a TD advantage will be a good decision.

Final Stat: New Orleans should have a more balanced offense with CJ Spiller and Mark Ingram, which will allow Drew Brees to be more effective with his league leading 80.4 Accuracy %.
