Pick 1: Oakland vs. Detroit and Washington vs. Carolina

The Teaser: Pair Oakland and Washington

Game 1: Oakland vs. Detroit

The Initial Line:

Oakland -1 away vs. Detroit

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to Oakland’s line

The Final Line:

Oakland +7.5

The Breakdown:

Oakland fell at home to streaking Minnesota Sunday 30-14. Detroit got a much needed win against a powerful opponent in Green Bay 18-16. Oakland is still very much in the playoff hunt with their 4-5 record this year, and it all starts with the play of Derek Carr. He currently ranks 6th in the NFL in QB rating at 101.4, and has given their team a much needed offensive spark this season. Latavius Murray has also been contributing, as he also ranks 6th in the NFL in rushing yards. Detroit was able to get their 2nd win, but they still are dealing with a handful of offensive struggles. Matthew Stafford ranks 24th in QB rating and is tied for the 2nd most INTs in the NFL. The defense hasn’t helped out much either, as they rank 31st in points allowed/game this season. Even at home Detroit will struggle once again against a much better offensive and defensive team. Take Oakland with a TD cushion here.

Final Stat: Carr has been hot as of late passing for at least 300 yds/game with 10 TDs and 3 INTs in his last 3 games.

Game 2: Washington vs. Carolina

The Initial Line:

Washington +8.5 away vs. Carolina

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to Washington’s line

The Final Line:

Washington +17

The Breakdown:

Washington had a dominant home victory against New Orleans in week 10 47-14. Carolina was able to keep their undefeated season alive with a road victory over Tennessee 27-10. Obviously Carolina seems like the team to beat right now in the NFC, but this Washington squad shouldn’t be overlooked. They sit 0.5 games back of New York in the NFC East and are riding high after a dominant victory on offense. Carolina is undefeated, but only won 5 out of 9 games by 8 pts or less. 4 out of 5 of those games also came at home, which shows they’ve been just pulling out victories. Kirk Cousins has been on fire lately, passing for 8 TDs and 1 INT in his last 3 games with a perfect passer rating last week. Washington may not have enough to stop undefeated Carolina, but they will keep this a close game and 17 pts should be more than enough to cover.

Final Stat: Cousins’ passer rating of 89.9 on the season is 6.8 pts higher than his career average (83.1).
