Pick 1: Philadelphia vs. New England and Arizona vs. St. Louis

The Teaser: Pair Philadelphia and Arizona

Game 1: Philadelphia vs. New England

The Initial Line:

Philadelphia +11 away vs. New England

The Take:

Add 6.5 points to Philadelphia’s line

The Final Line:

Philadelphia +17.5

The Breakdown:

Philadelphia suffered a huge defeat on Thanksgiving, falling on the road at the hands of Detroit 45-14. New England finally lost their first game of the year in a tough battle, as they lost at Denver 30-24 in OT. This is another game that seems like a blowout in the making, given New England’s home record. However the big question now is, who’s New England gonna throw the ball to? Their top 4 receivers all have injuries (Edelman, Gronkowski, Amendola, and Lewis), not counting the recent injury to Hightower who anchors the defense. Tom Brady has been spectacular this season, but he can only do so much. Over their last 3 games as injuries have piled up, NE has only outscored their opponents by 2 pts. In the other 8 games NE had outscored their opponents by 133 pts. Philadephia has not faired well with Sanchez at QB the last 2 games, as they are 0-2 and have been outscored by 59 pts. They do expect to have Sam Bradford back for this game, which will give them considerably better odds seeing as they’ve outscored opponents by 28 pts with him under center. New England may find a way to win at home as they usually do, but they’re not dominating teams with all of their injuries and taking Philly with a 17 pt cushion seems like a great play here.

Final Stat: Of non-injured players for New England’s offense, Lafell has the most receptions this season with only 21 catches.

Game 2: Arizona vs. St. Louis

The Initial Line:

Arizona -7 away vs. St. Louis

The Take:

Add 6.5 points to Arizona’s line

The Final Line:

Arizona -0.5

The Breakdown:

Arizona has continued their strong play as of late, getting their 5th straight win on the road vs San Francisco 19-13. St. Louis was embarrassed at the hands of Cincinnati, as they fell on the road 31-7. These are 2 teams going in opposite directions, as Arizona has won 5 straight while St. Louis has lost 4 straight. Besides Carolina, Arizona is the powerhouse in the NFC lead by 35 year old Carson Palmer. He ranks 2nd in passer rating at 105.9 and 3rd in passing yards with 3,337 on the year. Larry Fitzgerald has also been tagged as the “ageless wonder”, since he almost has 1,000 receiving yards on the season (5th in NFL). Nick Foles has been a big reason for St. Louis’ struggles, as he ranks 30th in passer rating. Besides Todd Gurley’s success running the ball, they have basically had no offense to depend on. Arizona is clearly the better team on both sides of the ball, and will continue their win streak as they march towards a long playoff run. Take them to win this one.

Final Stat: Arizona has the 4th most takeaways on defense with 21 on the year.
