Pick 1: Arizona vs. Baltimore and San Diego vs. Oakland

The Teaser: Pair Arizona and San Diego

Game 1: Arizona vs. Baltimore

The Initial Line:

Arizona -8.5 home vs. Baltimore

The Take:

Add 8 points to Arizona’s line

The Final Line:

Arizona -0.5

The Breakdown:

Arizona lost its second game of the season Sunday, as they fell on the road in Pittsburgh 25-13. Baltimore also incurred a loss on the road this week to a weak San Francisco team 25-20. Arizona has lost 2 out of 3, but still sits atop the NFC West division. Baltimore now sits at 1-5 on the year, and is already 5 games behind undefeated Cincinnati. Arizona is just better on both sides of the ball right now, as Carson Palmer is looking ageless. He has the 5th best QB rating, is 4th in pass yds, and is tied for 2nd with 14 TD passes. Flacco is a different story, as he is ranked 27th in QB rating and has 6 less TD passes than Palmer. The Baltimore defense has also been in shambles after losing Terrell Suggs to injury. They rank 27th in points allowed/game compared to 8th for Arizona. This will be a bounce back game for the Cards, as they tend to play better in front of the home crowd anyway and want to stay atop the NFC West. Take them to win here.

Final Stat: Arizona’s D is 4th in takeaways, while Baltimore ranks 30th in that category.

Game 2: San Diego vs. Oakland

The Initial Line:

San Diego -4.5 home vs. Oakland

The Take:

Add 8 points to San Diego’s line

The Final Line:

San Diego +3.5

The Breakdown:

San Diego lost a tight game in Green Bay behind Rivers’ 500 yd passing, falling 27-20. Oakland had a bye week after a 2-3 start to the year. San Diego has shown promise as a team, but they’ve had a couple heartbreaking losses in the last seconds to keep them at a 2-4 record. 3 of their losses have been by 7 pts or less. Philip Rivers has done all he can to keep the team in games, he leads the NFL in pass yds/game (353) and has completed over 70% of his passes. Derek Carr has shown signs of promise, but overall their offense has just been average. Oakland is ranked 30th in offensive total yards and 20th in points/game. The defenses are pretty comparable, as Oakland has the slight edge in points allowed/game (24.8 vs 26.8). This should be a close divisional game, but give SD the edge with homefield advantage and Rivers managing the offense.

Final Stat: Getting Antonio Gates back is a huge boost for the SD offense. He currently has the most TD catches among active TE or receivers with 101.
