Conference Championship Pick: Green Bay vs. Atlanta and Pittsburgh vs. New England

Conference Championship Pick: Green Bay vs. Atlanta and Pittsburgh vs. New England

The Teaser: Pair Green Bay and Pittsburgh

Game 1: Green Bay vs. Atlanta

The Initial Line:

Green Bay +5 away vs. Atlanta

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to Green Bay’s line

The Final Line:

Green Bay +13.5

The Breakdown:

Green Bay and Aaron Rodgers have kept their mojo going, as they went into Dallas and got a shocking late victory 34-31. Atlanta was able to handle Seattle’s weakened defense, as they got the home victory 36-20. This will be a showdown of two of the NFL’s top QBs of the season in Rodgers and Ryan. When these two faced off earlier this season, it was a great battle that Atlanta won in the closing seconds 33-32 at home. At that time Green Bay was still figuring out its team, but now they come in having won 8 straight games since Rodgers’ “run the table” comments. There are question marks with both teams’ best receivers, as Jordy Nelson and Julio Jones are both questionable for the contest. However, both teams have enough other weapons and a talented enough QB to overcome those challenges, and I fully expect a shootout. It’s tough to bet against Atlanta at home, but it’s also tough to bet against a highly motivated Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay also seems to have the slight edge on the defensive front, as they ranked 6th in sacks in the NFL vs Atlanta who only ranked 16th. This should be a shootout type game with both teams having a shot to win, so taking Green Bay with the points seems like the safe bet here.

Game 2: Pittsburgh vs. New England

The Initial Line:

Pittsburgh +6 away vs. New England

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to Pittsburgh’s line

The Final Line:

Pittsburgh +14.5

The Breakdown:

Pittsburgh was able to squeak out the victory on the road, as they won 18-16 over Kansas City despite not scoring a touchdown. New England won easily at home despite a sloppy game by their standards, as they defeated Houston 34-16. This will be another classic showdown between two AFC powerhouses, as Big Ben faces off against Tom Brady. Tom Brady had one of his best seasons of his career, as he set the TD/INT record (28/2) and only played 12 games. Despite losing Gronk their offense hasn’t missed a beat, as they’ve now won 8 straight games. However, Pittsburgh also comes in on a hot streak as they’ve won 9 straight behind the Killer B’s on offense (Big Ben, Bell, and Brown). New England hasn’t allowed a rusher to go over 100 yards all season, but they will have a serious challenge with Le’Veon Bell as he’s gained over 100 yards in 7 of his last 8 games (93 yds in the other game). New England also hasn’t faced many elite QBs this season, and Big Ben will be up to the challenge as he is 3-1 in AFC Championship games. This one should stay pretty close no matter who wins, so grabbing Pittsburgh with a 2 TD cushion seems like a no brainer here..
