NFL Teaser Pick – Week 5 – Pittsburgh vs. Jacksonville and Seattle vs. LA Rams

NFL Teaser Pick – Week 5 – Pittsburgh vs. Jacksonville and Seattle vs. LA Rams

The Teaser: Pair Pittsburgh and Seattle

Game 1: Pittsburgh vs. Jacksonville

The Initial Line:

Pittsburgh -8.5 home vs. Jacksonville

The Take:

Add 8 points to Pittsburgh’ line

The Final Line:

Pittsburgh -0.5

The Breakdown:

Pittsburgh got a convincing road win against their division rival Baltimore, coming out on top 26-9. Le’veon Bell was the star performer in the game, getting 35 carries for 144 yds and 2 TDs. Jacksonville continued their Jeckyl and Hyde show, as they lost to a weak New York Jets team on the road 23-20 in OT after a strong performance the week prior. Leonard Fournette was a bright spot once again for Jacksonville, carrying 24 times for 86 yds and added 4 catches for 59 yds and a TD.

Pittsburgh seems to be starting to get their offensive rhythm back, as they currently sit at 3-1 on the season after 3 out of 4 games on the road. Now they can return to Heinz Field where Roethlisberger typically shines, as he is 71-22 at home in his career with a 99.6 passer rating. However, the most surprising part of Pittsburgh’s early success has been their defense. They currently rank 2nd in the NFL in points allowed/game (14.8) and yards allowed/game (267.0), while Jacksonville’s highly touted defense ranks 6th and 11th respectively. Pittsburgh has one of the most potent offenses in the NFL when clicking and especially at home. I don’t see them losing to a Jacksonville squad that just got beat by one of the worst teams in the league, and in a shootout I trust Big Ben a lot more than Blake Bortles. Add a few points so that they don’t have to win by more than a TD, but getting them at -0.5 at home is pretty much a lock.

Game 2: Seattle vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Initial Line:

Seattle +2.5 away vs. Los Angeles Rams

The Take:

Add 8 points to Seattle’s line

The Final Line:

Seattle +10.5

The Breakdown:

Seattle finally got their first dominating win of the season, defeating Indianapolis at home 46-18 on Sunday Night Football. The offense got it going to the tune of 477 total yards behind Russell Wilson’s 2 pass TDs and 1 rush TD. The Los Angeles Rams were heavy underdogs but still pulled out the victory on Sunday, going on the road to defeat Dallas 35-30. RB Todd Gurley continues to dominate, as he had 23 carries for 121 yds and 7 catches for 94 yds and a TD.

Seattle has stumbled a bit out of the gate, but finally got a spark in the 2nd half of their Sunday Night Football game after amassing 28 unanswered points. The defense has been scarce to this point in the season, but they chipped in on Sunday with 3 sacks, a recovered fumble, and an INT returned for a TD. This game represents a major momentum swing for the victor, as Los Angeles already has a 1 game lead in the NFC West. Despite not living up to their usual dominant defensive expectations, Seattle has held opponents to 19.3 PPG which ranks 10th in the NFL compared to LA who gives up 26.3 PPG (28th in NFL). I see this staying a close game, with both teams fighting for a potential chance at an NFC West crown riding in the balance. Seattle at +2.5 is scary just based on the fact that a late FG could drown them, but a TD and FG cushion (+10.5) sounds easy for them to achieve as they’ve only lost by more than once in Russell Wilson’s regular season career dating back to 2012.
