Teaser Pick – Week 7 – New Orleans vs. Green Bay and New York Jets vs. Miami

The Teaser: Pair New Orleans and New York Jets

Game 1: New Orleans vs. Green Bay

The Initial Line:

New Orleans -5.5 away vs. Green Bay

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to New Orleans’ line

The Final Line:

New Orleans +3

The Breakdown:

New Orleans eventually got the win in one of the craziest games of the year, beating Detroit at home 52-38. The main story of the game was turnovers by Detroit, as New Orleans scored 3 defensive TDs and had 31 points by halftime. Green Bay lost on the road at the hands of their division rivals Minnesota, with that one ending as a 23-10 final. The big storyline for Green Bay was the loss of Aaron Rodgers, who may be lost for the season with a broken collarbone. Backup Brett Hundley tried to fill in but threw 3 interceptions into the hands of Minnesota defenders.

New Orleans is above .500 for the first time since 2013, and they don’t show signs of slowing down. Even though Drew Brees may be 38, he’s still one of the best in the league – he currently sits 5th in passer rating at 103.2. The offensive line has really been the story for NO, as they rank 1st in the NFL in sacks allowed (4.0) compared to GB who ranks 31st (23.0). That doesn’t bode well for 3rd year QB Hundley, who’s only had 44 career pass attempts in the NFL and will need to lead the offense behind a banged up OL. NO has won 3 straight and finally sees an opportunity for success in the NFC South, and GB will be scrambling to put together a game plan after losing arguably the most influential player to a team’s success in the NFL. GB is at home so they always have a slight edge, but without Rodgers they’re not the same squad. Take NO with some extra points to be safe, but I think they could also win easily in this one.

Game 2: New York Jets vs. Miami

The Initial Line:

New York Jets +3 away vs. Miami

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to New York’s line

The Final Line:

New York Jets +11.5

The Breakdown:

New York couldn’t hold onto the victory against their rivals, as they lost at home to New England 24-17. Even though their 3-game win streak was snapped, they held a 14-point lead in the game and had a controversial TD called back in the loss. Miami pulled a shocking road upset, overcoming a 17-point deficit to beat Atlanta 20-17. Miami did just enough to win, sealing the game with a late interception against Matt Ryan.

New York has defied all expectations, as many predicted that they’d go 0-16 after their player dump-off, currently sitting at 3-3. Their running back squad has been surprisingly impressive behind the legs of Forte, Powell, and McGuire. Miami has had their ups and down with Jay Cutler at the helm, but their offense has struggled and they currently rank last in points scored (12.2 PPG). This rivalry should make for a good contest, and the game could go either way. Taking New York with the points seems like the smart move here, and +11.5 should be more than plenty for a revived team playing against a once-retired Jay Cutler. Take them in a teaser in this one.
