Pick 5: Chicago vs. Buffalo and Denver vs. Indianapolis

Pick 5: Chicago vs. Buffalo and Denver vs. Indianapolis

The Teaser: Pair Cincinnati and Dallas

Game 1: Chicago vs. Buffalo

The Initial Line:

Chicago -7.5 home vs. Buffalo

The Take:

Add 6.5 points to Chicago’s line

The Final Line:

Chicago -1

The Breakdown:

Chicago had a bit of a transformation in 2013. They have been known for their defense in past years, but last year their offense was 5th in the NFL in passing yards. However it wasn’t enough to make the playoffs, as they lost a last minute stunner to their rivals Green Bay. Buffalo had another sub-par season in the AFC East, finishing 6-10 and ensuring a losing season for the 9th straight year. They hope to build off of their running game which was 2nd in the NFL in yards, as well as their defense which was 4th in passing yards against.

Chicago will be battling Green Bay all year for the top spot in the NFC North. Buffalo will have to have luck on their side if they hope to make a jump in the AFC East and clinch a playoff spot in 2014. This home opener will be a great opportunity for Chicago to make a statement of their expectations in 2014, as Cutler and Marshall hope to continue to pick defenses apart. With a 25-15 record at home the last 5 years, expect Chicago to come out opening week and set the tone with a win. Take Chicago at -1.

Game 2: Denver vs. Indianapolis

The Initial Line:

Denver -7 home vs. Indianapolis

The Take:

Add 6.5 points to Denver’s line

The Final Line:

Denver -0.5

The Breakdown:

Denver redefined the meaning of offense in 2013, breaking almost every record and reinforcing why Peyton Manning will go down as one of the greatest QBs of all time. However they suffered a crushing blow by Seattle in the Super Bowl, getting blown out 43-8. Indianapolis continues to show promise with Andrew Luck at the helm, going 11-5 on their way to winning the AFC South. Even though they lost to New England in the Divisional Round 43-22, they have shown that Andrew Luck is an elite player and will be a star for years to come.

After swallowing their tough Super Bowl defeat all offseason, Denver is poised to be right back in the mix for the Lombardi trophy in 2014. Peyton Manning seems to get better every year, and even though it may be tough to top his performance last year he is still a guy who will excel greatly due to his rigorous work ethic. Indianapolis will give Denver all they can handle on opening weekend, but Denver is looking for revenge in 2014 and won’t let anyone come into their city and defeat them. Take Denver at -0.5 to lock in a win with a home victory.
