Pick 5: Philadelphia vs. Green Bay and Washington vs. Tampa Bay

Pick 5: Philadelphia vs. Green Bay and Washington vs. Tampa Bay

The Teaser: Pair Philadelphia and Washington

Game 1: Philadelphia vs. Green Bay

The Initial Line:

Philadelphia +5 away vs. Green Bay

The Take:

Add 6.5 points to Philadelphia’s line

The Final Line:

Philadelphia +11.5

The Breakdown:

Philadelphia did just fine with Mark Sanchez in at QB for the injured Nick Foles, as they steamrolled Carolina 45-21 on Monday Night Football. Sanchez went 20/37 for 322 yds and 2 TDs in the game in his first start since 2012. Darren Sproles also shined on offense with a 65 yd punt return TD and an 8 yd rush TD. However the defense might have been the most impressive on the night, forcing Carolina into 5 turnovers (2 fumbles, 3 INTs) and sacking Cam Newton 9 (nine!) times. Green Bay had one of its best nights in history on Sunday Night Football, crushing division rival Chicago 55-14. Aaron Rodgers had a night for the record books, throwing for over 300 yds and 6 TDs in the first half! The Green Bay defense also forced Chicago into 3 turnovers, including 1 fumble and 2 INTs.

Green Bay is clearly a strong team at home, but they also were playing a Chicago team that has done nothing the last few weeks. Also if you look at their opponents this year they have won games against fairly weak opponents (New York, Chicago twice, Minnesota, Miami, and Carolina) but have lost to better opponents (Seattle, Detroit, New Orleans). Philadelphia will not fold up like Chicago did, as these are 2 of the highest scoring teams in the league (Phi at #4, GB at #5). Expect a competitive game in this one, and even if Green Bay pulls out the victory Philly won’t lose by more than 11. They haven’t lost by more than 5 pts all season.

Game 2: Washington vs. Tampa Bay

The Initial Line:

Washington -7 home vs. Tampa Bay

The Take:

Add 6.5 points to Washington’s line

The Final Line:

Washington -0.5

The Breakdown:

Washington had a bye in week 10 after a tight loss to Minnesota in week 9, 29-26. That was RGIII’s first game back from being injured, and he had a quality game with 251 yds, a TD and an INT. They will be well rested for this home game in week 11, as they hope to salvage some wins after a disappointing 3-6 start. Tampa Bay had yet another loss in week 10, losing at home to Atlanta 27-17. Josh McCown threw for 301 yds with 2 TD and 2 INT, and was also the leading rusher with 39 yds on the ground. Mike Evans had a great game, catching 7 passes for 125 yds and a TD. It was the 3 turnovers that killed Tampa Bay in this one though.

This is the tale of two teams who have had disappointing seasons, as they only have 4 wins between them through week 10. However Washington is still a much more well rounded team. Despite their record, they are 6th in passing yds/game in the league and have a top 10 defense as well. They will be well rested after a bye week, and will have the home crowd at their backs against a weak Tampa Bay club. Expect more passing by Washington, since TB ranks 31st in opp. pass yds for the year. Tampa Bay has done a good job of keeping some games close lately and might do the same here, but Washington is clearly the better team and should get a home win here. Take them at -0.5 to ensure that outcome gets us in the win column as well.
