Pick 2: Atlanta vs. Pittsburgh and Buffalo vs. Green Bay

Pick 2: Atlanta vs. Pittsburgh and Buffalo vs. Green Bay

The Teaser: Pair Atlanta and Buffalo

Game 1: Atlanta vs. Pittsburgh

The Initial Line:

Atlanta +2 home vs. Pittsburgh

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to Atlanta’s line

The Final Line:

Atlanta +10.5

The Breakdown:

Atlanta almost mounted an enormous comeback against Green Bay but fell short, losing 43-37 in Lambeau Field. It looked like a blowout at the half with Green Bay up 31-7, but Matt Ryan stormed the team back with 30 2nd half pts to make it a tight game. Julio Jones had the best night of his career after achieving that mark last week, as he caught 11 passes for 259 yds and a TD. There wasn’t much defense from either side, as the two teams scored 80 pts and had almost 1,000 total yds. Pittsburgh was able to get the road win against division rival Cincinnati, winning 42-21. The score doesn’t give a good indication of how the game was going, as Cincinnati held a 4 pt lead going into the 4th quarter before 25 unanswered by Pit. Ben Roethlisberger had a huge game, as he threw for 350 yds and 3 TDs.

On paper it may seem that Pittsburgh would be the better team as they have 3 more wins, but Atlanta has come on lately and is still on top of the miserable NFC South division despite the 5-8 record. Julio Jones is as hot as a player can be, as he turned in 259 yds after an 189 yd performance last week. Both of these teams are fighting to stay in the playoff hunt, but are pretty evenly matched with Atlanta having the home-field advantage. Expect an offensive shootout here, but Atlanta will not let down after winning 3 of their last 4. Take them at +10.5 for some insurance.

Game 2: Buffalo vs. Green Bay

The Initial Line:

Buffalo +6.5 home vs. Green Bay

The Take:

Add 8.5 points to Buffalo’s line

The Final Line:

Buffalo +15

The Breakdown:

Buffalo couldn’t pull off the road victory in a hostile Mile High Stadium, falling to Denver 24-17. The defense actually did a decent job of containing the potent Denver offense, as they were held to 306 total yds and forced 3 turnovers. However Kyle Orton threw 2 INTs of his own, and you can’t make those kinds of mistakes on the road in Denver. Sammy Watkins had a great game, catching 7 passes for 127 yds. Green Bay was able to hold onto the victory at home, defeating Atlanta 43-37. They got out to an early 31-7 lead at halftime, but let Atlanta back into the game in the 2nd half. Aaron Rodgers kept his no INT at home streak alive, as he passed for 327 yds and 3 TDs. James Starks had a solid game on the ground, gaining 75 yds and a TD.

Buffalo is fighting to stay alive in the AFC with a 7-6 record, and faces a tough stretch to end their season with Denver, Green Bay, and New England as 3 of the last 4 games. Now they go home to face a GB team that has won 5 straight and shows no signs of letting up. However they are not as dominant on the road, as they only have scored 22.5 PPG compared to 41.1 PPG at home. Also Buffalo has the 5th best pass D and 8th best run D which will create challenges for GB. Expect a big game out of Buffalo here as they fight to stay in the playoff hunt. GB might get the victory, but they won’t run away with it – take Buffalo at +15.
