Pick 3: New Orleans vs. Cleveland and Dallas vs. Tennessee

Pick 3: New Orleans vs. Cleveland and Dallas vs. Tennessee

The Teaser: Pair New Orleans and Dallas

Game 1: New Orleans vs. Cleveland

The Initial Line:

New Orleans -7 away vs. Cleveland

The Take:

Add 7 points to New Orleans’ line

The Final Line:

New Orleans even

The Breakdown:

New Orleans was on the losing end of a shootout at Atlanta in week 1, falling 37-34 in OT to Matt Ryan who threw for a ridiculous 448 yds and 3 TDs. Matt Bryant also hit a 51yd FG as time expired to send it to OT, and then proceeded to hit the game winning 52yd FG after a New Orleans fumble. Cleveland almost came back for a miraculous victory in Pittsburgh, as they scored 24 unanswered points to tie it at 27-27 only to see a game winning FG crush their dreams. It probably gave them some confidence however as they wanted to see if Brian Hoyer could compete at a high level, and I think he proved that for the first time this year after a poor preseason.

New Orleans is another one of those teams who is primed to be a Lombardi Trophy contender this season. However they know if they want a shot at the title, they need to start off of a good note. After a heartbreaking loss in week 1, expect them to be fired up for this game against an average Cleveland club. In 4 games after a loss in 2013, New Orleans managed to score 35, 49, 31, and 42 pts (39 pt average). If that’s any indication of how this game will go, there is no way that Cleveland keeps up with that pace. Expect a win by New Orleans in week 2, so take them with 7 pts to get this line even.

Game 2: Dallas vs. Tennessee

The Initial Line:

Dallas +3.5 away vs. Tennessee

The Take:

Add 7 points to Dallas’ line

The Final Line:

Dallas +10.5

The Breakdown:

Yet another poor effort by Tony Romo in week 1, as Dallas was manhandled by a physical San Francisco team at home 28-17. Actually the fact that Dallas could keep it that close despite 4 turnovers (21 pts scored after a turnover) shows that they still put forth a strong effort. Tennessee had one of the biggest upsets of the weekend, dominating Kansas City at home 26-10 with a solid performance from Jake Locker (266 yds, 2 TDs). This gives them a positive outlook on the season as they were not projected to be a contending team this season.

Now I know a lot of critics love to get on Dallas and say how horrible they are, but let’s look at some positives. When Tony Romo isn’t throwing INTs, he’s leading a highly explosive offense. Dez Bryant and Jason Witten are huge assets at WR and TE, not to mention Demarco Murray at RB who gained 1,121 yds and a 5.2 yd average per carry in 2013. I think this game will be a shootout in Tennessee on Sunday as Dallas will keep fighting back on offense, and taking Dallas with 10.5 points should give us a winning pick even if Dallas ends up starting 0-2.
